When hearing that there was a robotics program in Halsey, I immediately signed up. Unlike others, I didn't do it because it would look good on my high school application. Instead, I signed up because I loved engineering. I do a little bit of everything; engineering, coding, Public Relations (PR), and the notebook. In conclusion, I love being a part of this team and build relationships with my team members.-Emily

Hi names Devon G and my first inspiration for robots was when i joined another robotics team called “tech achievement institute”, they used a different type of robot with a different type of code, the robot used was Vex IQ (a robot that already had the driver control and other controls implemented into a line of code), I also visited Maker Faire at the Hall of Science, in which i got a more in depth look at robots. Last year in 7th grade I applied to stem for talent, and this year when I tried to join this robotics club, being in stem gave me a boost in joining since a majority of it involved robotics… Ever since we got to second place at Francis Lewis (the first middle school/junior-high school to win second place) we have been working extra hard to maintain the robot...

Hi, my name is Julian im 13 years old I play a lot of video games and I really like tech. Because I like tech I wanted to work at the microsoft store or I want to make my own inventions, when I heard about the robotics club i had to join, I know this was my opportunity to learn want I need to know to pursue my dreams. Once I got to the robotics club I decided to be the driver of the robot. I was very excited to be the driver of the robot I know that I needed to be prepared to drive the robot so made sure to be at every meeting and when I wasn't with the team I played a tank game that had similar driving aspects as the robot so I used that to help me drive the robot at the competition.

My name is Yuga and I am 12 years old. I started to get interested in robotics when I was 10 years old when I started to play a game that was about designing a car and making a robot. Playing this game influenced me to want to be in robotics. On the robotics team I am an engineer and part coder which means that I helped a little with the code. Some other hobbies I have in technology is  playing video games that have to do with robotics. Some skills that I use in robotics is my skill of building things really well. I can build things easily so that is why I am an engineer. Also I have a little bit of skills in coding which helped my team code the robot. Also before I joined robotics and just heard of the robotics team I wanted to make something cool. I wanted to make my own invention. So after I heard of this robotics team, I knew this was my chance to achieve my goal of becoming an engineer. When I got into the team I wanted to be a driver but I didn’t get it.

My name is Adrian. I am in seventh grade in halsey 157. I enjoy playing soccer. I am in the Halsey robotics team. I started out in six grade and forest hills helped us get on track. I helped build our robot. It took us a couple of months to build the bot to due our meeting twice a week. I have been to 2 robotics competitions. Our first competition to JDHS we came in 22nd place. Our second competition to FLHS, we came in second place. We were eligible to create alliances with other schools. We created a team with Francis Lewis and Forest Hills. We made a huge improvement. During our times, Forest Hills allowed us to come over to their school to gain some more insight on what to expect in the future.

My name is Dan Viderman and I like to play sports. I enjoy swimming and practicing robotics. I enjoy coding and maneuvering the robot for the driver station.  I have had a few jobs in the robotics team. I was the PR person, I am the captain of the team., and I am also a coder

Last year I joined the robotics team in May. I was enthusiastic when I heard I got in because I love technology and inventing. When I joined we discussed the basic foundations and as soon as you know it we were building the actual robot. In the team I helped build the robot, help with the notebook and designed, created, and programmed the robotics website. Furthermore, I am the designated coach for our team. During the competition I direct the drivers and tell them how they can earn more points so that we can get a higher ranking. I also directed them on where to go and what to do while the drivers also incorporate their own ideas to win. Our second competition on January 13 was our best. We got second place and our robot worked much better. Our autonomous mode was working and our claw wouldn't get jammed when we lowered it. These issues occured in our first competition but we thankfully fixed it.Our first competition was not as great, we got twenty fourth place. But our second competition score was a huge leap from twenty fourth place. For future competitions I believe that our team can work on getting our robot onto the board during the thirty second end game. Also I believe our team can listen and communicate better to each other while we are on the field.

Throughout my entire life, I have always been interested by many different innovators of the world, who have changed the course of the United State’s society forever. For example, based on my recent knowledge, one of the most important innovators in today’s time period was Elon Musk, considering the fact that he was able to help solve and prevent hundreds of thousands of environmental problems, such as global warming, by creating an electric car company called Tesla in order to prevent the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. As a result, these innovators have now inspired me to become the best engineer in the world so that I am able to help improve the lives of not only myself, but also others as well. On the other hand, in order for me to actually become the best engineer in the future, it requires me to join certain activities, clubs, and other after school or outside activities to finally accomplish my ultimate goal. Consequently, when I heard the opportunity of our school, which is called J.H.S. Halsey 157, opening up a new robotics team, where we would create our robot as well as code it to accomplish certain functions, this automatically signaled myself to do everything I could to get into the robotics team. As time travels by and I get comfortable with communicating with my other group members, I eventually chose to become an engineer in order to help lead as well as build our robot to the best of my ability. However as my experience in engineering starts to grow, I realize that there are hundreds of thousands of trial and error situation when dealing with either the construction or the repairing of the robot. In fact, one of the most annoying challenges me and my fellow engineers faced, during my time at the robotics team, is that we lost certain materials, such as a screw, when we were constructing the base of the robot, considering the fact that we were totally disorganized as we decided to place as well as return materials back to the resource box. As a result, by the time we finally found the missing screw, it was already time for the day to end. Consequently, this led me to conclude a very important lesson, which is to always make sure that you put away all materials that you take out of the box so that when one of the engineers, including myself, need these specific materials, it will easily be in the tool box to grab and go. Lastly, during my time at robotics, the most exciting thing that our entire team did together was when we were going up against different types of high schools in the relic recovery game, hence I was able to observe all the different types of designs that high school students were able to imagine.
